History of Wizz Air
Low-cost carrier Wizz Air was the first Eastern European company to conquer the European market. The carrier was founded in 2003 by Hungarian entrepreneur Jozsef Varadi. By 2015, the company was able to reach 600 routes across Europe and the Middle East.
Despite its low-cost status, Wizz Air is one of the best airlines in Europe. For example, all economy class aircraft are equipped with comfortable leather seats. It was the first airline in the world to do away with paper tickets. WizzAir pays special attention to environmental protection: its ships undergo regular refurbishment, which significantly reduces CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
Since 2015, the company has been divided into 6 divisions (Hungarian, British, Balkan, North European, Mediterranean and a pilot academy in Poland) for ease of management. The carrier pays great attention to localization of its services for travelers. Thus, the company’s website and app are fully localized into all European languages, including Russian.
Wizz Air fleet
WizzAir is one of the few companies to have completely abandoned the use of Boeing equipment. As its main region of operation is Europe, the carrier actively cooperates with the French-Dutch Airbus Group. A distinctive feature of all low-cost carriers is the absence of business class and enlarged “sharklet” wing tips. Thanks to this wing geometry, the vessels have increased maneuverability.

Popular Wizz Air flight destinations
Wizz Air does not currently operate flights to Russia and Ukraine. However, the company is actively represented in the CIS and EU markets. The air carrier’s main hub is Budapest. Unlike its competitors, Wizz Air does not specialize in “resort” flights, but tries to evenly cover the whole territory of Europe.
In addition to Europe, it serves the Middle East, including such exotic destinations as Oman and Bahrain. In the EU countries, the company provides so-called “travel packages” – a comprehensive service from travel to the airport to booking a hotel with partners.
Classes of service
All passengers are offered several baggage fees. The “Basic” fare allows you to carry one piece of hand baggage without baggage. Family” fare – one piece up to 20 kg and free choice of a seat in the airplane. Priority” fare gives you access to premium seats. On this fare you do not need to check-in – the company itself will book your seat and help you to place your luggage on the airplane.
WizzAir offers an opportunity to buy a gift voucher and present it to your loved ones. The voucher covers both air travel services and hotel/car reservations.
Another curious service is the “Nameless traveling companion”. When booking, you can specify up to 9 passengers without giving their name/contact details. Later, when you choose with whom you will be traveling, you can continue booking on the previously booked passengers.
Wizz Air Loyalty Programs
The low-coster compares favorably with its competitors with a rich choice of loyalty programs. The carrier has 3 discount offers.
- The first is WizzPass. Members receive priority access to flights, increased hand baggage allowance and baggage allowance on their reservations, and receive priority service at check-in. WizzPass can be purchased separately at wizzair.com.
- The second is WizzAir Discount Club. The mileage accrual program is standard: there are several levels of privileges (basic, silver, gold), for each of which the number of bonuses received increases. For the euros spent on the company’s services a member of the club receives bonus miles, which can be exchanged for tickets, additional luggage and meals on board.
- The third is a unique WizzMultiPass subscription. If you fly regularly to the Mediterranean region, you can sign up for a monthly subscription. In exchange for it, you will get a free choice of seats on the flights you want, maximum baggage allowance and automatic check-in when buying a ticket. The subscription is not only valid for purchasing tickets, but also for car rental from WizzAir’s airport of arrival.
